The history behind the O-tank Saga.

Preface
I played Arctic MUD during 10/95~5/97. Currently I am not an active player however I still have lots to share with y'all. I played in high school somewhat extensively and then in college. In college I had a T1 which definitely improved my playing quality as well as my overall effectiveness. While most folks complain of lag, packet loss, or being link dead, I experienced almost nothing of the sort.
Oeschard the Drunken Master
Good Male Wild Elf Warrior
My very first character was Oeschard the Drunken Master, and I played him during my first pwipe. He had a 18 str 9 int 18 dex 15 con and I can't remember his wis. Basically, at level 29 he had somewhere around 450 hitpoints but many excellent skills. His armor consisted of that green armor from the constable in Solace. He wielded the black adamantite longsword from Drow, offhanded the charred long sword from Dargaard Keep, and wore a gossamer gown. He rarely double massacred, and for his purposes, I learned a lot about Arctic including leading a few zones. He suffered numerous de-levels and was pkilled by Joong and later by the combined efforts of Rogosh and Cabre together. All this time he was non-aligned but made several friends among the Black Dragons including Gilidarius, Browen, Nyle, and a few others. His best buds at that time was Tregar, Skyy, Pyrkaige, Sprigly, Zervun, and Jindl. Some folks I met this wipe who would later become my enemies or allies in addition to the ones previously mentioned included Nyte, Noarb, Slowboy, Blackjack, Tino, Regere, Hristomilo, Alator, Paco, Kyra, Skyy, Ogrim, Regere, Martel, Anasazi, Roger, Opiam, Jackie, and more.
The Arctic web page was redone and they added player lists and clan home page links. The 3 most prominent names under "O" were Ogrim, Opiam, and Oeschard, so we were known as the 3 O-tanks. Since then there have been quite a few wannabe O-tanks which is flattering, but the original three went on to pursue the game with great success.
I got a few small anecdotes to share with you guyz. The first 2 people that I got to know pretty well were Zervun and Karenina. I mean, I remember doing Toede with them, and it was like a big deal to me at level 8 or whatever I was. This was back when Solace was the only city I knew.
Later on I migrated to Bali4 and started hitting Dirim Peaks pretty hard. This is how I came to know Sprigly, a lil' kender with superb steal. He taught me how to use firebreather and such to quickly regain hp for soloing. We used to do the orc chieftan and that area together.
Once I hit around level 20 I started hitting zones such as Dargaard and Gargath's keep. I grouped with a mage named Endiel and remember being pretty impressed by his knowledge of the game. Endiel usually worked alone, soloing and gaining tons of exp and cash by himself. That was the same way with Roger Wilco. I remember one of my first encounters with him was to help me get a elven pike of the Shrine Guard. Karma stoneskinned him up, and in he went, and we heard a death cry, and we thanked Roger for his hassle.
Eventually a pwipe did occur, and this spawned more characters.
Omigo San
Evil Wild Elf Male Warrior
This char was basically a successor to Oeschard. With the experience gained in the previous pwipe, I knew what to look for and what to get. Omigo was blessed with 20 str, 13 wis, and 16 con, which was a godsend compared to what I had to work with before. For those who saw him, he eventually earned the reputation as the "Glow master". Omigo was a member of the Death Jester clan and because of their neutrality he grouped with the Qua Kzars a lot under the leadership of Phaergas. Of course Omigo was firstly loyal to his khan of the Death Jester's. This wipe was an important one, the monetary system was changed, and a lot of important zone changes took place. For instance, Dargaard keep was changed so that all the undead knights track in while fighting Lord Soth and so on.
Sarasate
23 str 10 int 12 wis 9 dex 21 con
Evil Male Wild Elf Thief
The stats pretty much speak for themselves. Although this guy had a pathetically low dex he rocked. This was the first char that I've played outside of a tank class character and I was relatively unexperienced. I soon learned realized how difficult it was to train all the skills necessary to make a good thief. This char was great fun, and I got him up to level 23 before the next pwipe happened. All I remember him having was a diamond tipped spear, black transluscent ring, and dark mithril dagger. His home base was in Tarsis, before it was changed, back when they had the peacekeepers.
Oligo San
19 str 18 con
Evil Male Dwarf Warrior
This char was created right after another pwipe. I don't remember his exact stats, but I just wanted something with raw hitpoints so I could gather eq right away before everything was maxxed out. This is key after pwipes. I remember Roger was already doing the orc camp when everyone was still trying to get to level 2 during the few hours after the pwipe. Condor feathers of course were the first to go. Oligo became very active with a clan that never really agreed on a name (Jagged/Crimson Fist?) and participated in many huntings, pkillings, and such.
Ofilok
23 str 15 int 11 wis 15 dex 21 con
Evil Male Dwarf Warrior
It took me about 40 rolls to get this one, but it was well worth it. This
char had the stats, the brain, the brawn, the eq, and the clan to
back it up. The eq kinda says it all.
Ofilok is using:
| <worn on finger> |
a cryptic ring |
| <worn on finger> |

| <worn around neck> |

a mithril rapier..it glows dimly |
| <used in secondary hand> |
a teeth chain |
Usually though, running around town you'd see me more likely in bashing configuration with the spiked buckler, battle banner of the dragonarmies. In my inventory I usually had a blackened chest, a few recalls, ice pellets, venom dagger, and then some. It was good having 2 level 30 tanks in the same pwipe, because I was able to test out weapons with one char while the other one temporarily held my old weapon. Similiary I could test out different eq configurations this way.
To gloat a little: What you're likely to face if you're....
Primary (mithril rapier) Secondary (teeth chain)
standing massacre~annihilate massacre
sitting (bashed) annihilate~obliterate annihilate
resting obliterate obliterate
sleeping obliterate obliterate
Conick was my test pet, as I did experiments on him to determine max possible damage. I remember once when I took him from 130 hp to 2 hp in one round of double obliterates and he recalled b4 I could flee.
I remember exactly how the war started this wipe. Basically, Charo was walking around town (Kalaman) with a strong warrior and Lucas was also wandering around. Charo ordered the strong warrior to bash Lucas, and that was pretty much it, Lucas died swiftly. Well, Lucas, me, and a few others went after Charo and eventually we got him in Bali4. So I was sitting pretty with his questor rod and heavily scratched gauntlets and such. And that's basically how this pwipe was initiated.
With Ofilok I explored a few new zones including the one done by Varnok/Sprigly near the Solace and Icewall south of Tarsis. Exploring Icewall was a real treat. After tanking some double obliterating beast that did 200+ hp a round, we came away clean with the dragon orb, many thanks go to Boham for his fine healing.
I think Ofilok was only pkilled once by Melio and Pretos outside the Neraka inn at level 20. I can't remember any other occurences.
Since then, I've kind of mellowed out. After Ofi got to 1 xp at level 30, it was just a constant battle with decay. Then Quake clan wars starting really heating up so I took time out. Every now and then I drop by and say hello to report on the daily news.
